I've been thinking about transitioning from relaxed to natural hair for quite some time and I think I really want to do it this time just to see how my hair texture will end up. I realize it won't be 100% naturally curly like it was when I was a child, but I have hope. LOL I normally space my relaxers out every 3 or 4 months anyway, but my last relaxer was January 2, 2011. Here are some things I hope to accomplish:
- Thicker hair - my hair has been very fine since I was a little girl, but it's gotten a tad thicker since I've become an adult. I'd like to see it get a tad thicker.
- Learn how to do flat twistouts...BY MYSELF! - When I do twistouts myself, they're pretty sloppy, but I love when my friend does my flat twists for me. I love how my twistouts come out and my hair is super wavy/curly from root to end! I just need to learn how to flat twist and braid to the scalp because those will be my go to styles while I'm transitioning.
- A sew-in for the summer - the summer hasn't even started and I'm already tired of my hair and nervous about what's to come while I transition. I don't want to straighten it at all this summer for 2 reasons: it may ruin my curl pattern and it's too hot to put time and effort into flat ironing my hair just for it to frizz up! I've been thinking about cutting my hair into a bob (for the 3rd time) or just getting a sew-in cut into a cute bob.
I haven't cut my hair since Thanksgiving '09 so my hair has definitely grown back. All I've been getting since then is my trims for split ends (which I'm in dire need of right now). I really want to start blogging on a regular basis again and I think blogging will also help me track my progress. I'd love to hear from those of you who have always been natural, those of you who may have done the 'big chop' and those of you who are transitioning like me. I'd love to get all the feedback and suggestions I can during this process. I just hope I have the willpower not to go out and purchase an Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil No-Lye Relaxer in normal strength. LOL!
