I can't believe I've gone 10 months relaxer-free! It hasn't been extremely tedious, but I have faced some challenges. Shedding and styling have been my major gripes. Other than that, it's been smooth sailing. I'm still trying to experiment with different things to see what my hair likes and dislikes. I trimmed my hair myself (gasp) for the very first time last week because I wanted to control the amount of hair cut and because I didn't feel like making my regular trip to the local hair school to get it done. All I did was comb my hair out and snip the scraggly ends after I co-washed and air-dried my hair. I've found that these things work for my hair:
Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship conditioner
Elasta QP Creme Conditioning Shampoo
Organic Coconut Oil
wide tooth comb (of course)
plaiting or twisting my hair in 4-5 sections at night if I'm not styling to prevent matting & tangles
I'm scheduled for another co-wash tonight so hopefully the trim stopped all the shedding I was doing. I guess we'll see once I co-wash and detangle in the shower! Two more months until I'm one year post-relaxer!
