Open Letter to Nicki Minaj

I normally wouldn't discuss things like this, but why not?

As you all may or may not know, Hot 97 held its annual Summer Jam during the first weekend this month and one of their radio personalities, Peter Rosenberg made a comment regarding Nicki Minaj's single, Starships calling it "bullshit". As a result, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj both took to Twitter to announce Nicki and the rest of YMCMB would not be taking the stage at Summer Jam because of the comments. Later in the show Funkmaster Flex made some shady comments out of anger after she decided not to take the stage even though she was headlining the show and fans paid for tickets to see her. A day later, Nicki Minaj spoke with Funkmaster Flex and claimed the reason she didn't take the stage is because she felt disrespected as the only woman headlining the show. Needless to say, they went back and forth for an hour discussing the matter.

Lil Wayne made a statement regarding this mess and here it is: "I believe females deserve the ultimate respect at all times, no matter what, when, where or how."

STOP THE PRESS!

Dear Onika,

I need more from you. The fact that a radio personality said one of your songs was wack is not an excuse for you to get out of a performance your fans paid money to see. I hate to break it to you hun, but using the fact that you're a woman as an excuse to pull out of a performance is malarkey. We don't wanna hear your pseudo-feminist logic when someone has an opinion that isn't in your favor. You've got to understand as an entertainer that everybody is NOT gonna always be here for you.

There are bigger issues women have to face everyday so for you to play the it's-because-I'm-a-woman card is reaching.

I could see if Rosenberg made a sexist remark, but he didn't. He said your song was wack. You can't fault the man for having an opinion on the song. He works for Hot 97 and you're from New York so none of this should be new to you.

Listen girl, you're not gonna be everybody's cup of tea. That's just how the cookie crumbles. My advice to you is to get tougher skin and stop with the dramatics. I'm sure a lot of your fans paid money to see you headline the show, but you pulled out because a radio personality said your song was trash? Girl, do better. I get that you feel a way, considering you're one of the only popular female rappers out these days, but you have to let some stuff roll off your back. It's not that deep.

Sincerely,

Jai
