I honestly can't remember the last time I did a post about me and that's really a shame. I'm really terrible at this, but here we go:
I think I've decided to keep my hair regimen pretty simple as far as products are concerned. There are so many great brands that cater to natural hair and not-so-great brands who are just now jumping on the bandwagon to capitalize off of natural hair after catering to our relaxed hair for years. (i.e. Dark and Lovely, Motions, etc.) Please
stick to the rivers and lakes you're used to until you're really ready to educate yourselves on natural hair in order to expand your respective brands. But I digress.
I've been watching Whitney aka Naptural85
since 2011 during my transition and she's definitely my favorite natural hair blogger/vlogger. Whitney's been natural for about four years and she has gorgeous hair, but her regimen and product list is very simple. She is the prime example of someone with beautiful, healthy hair sans all the cleansing creams, styling butters, elixirs and magic potions. In fact, she makes her own deep conditioners, hair & body oil and styling butter. I also love her hair tutorials. Although she makes the styles look extremely easy, I'm almost 98.999% sure that my hair ever won't come out looking like hers. I'm really bad at styling my hair, which is why I keep it simple with a twist out. I'm definitely going to be revising what I use on my hair and chill out when it comes to jumping at the chance to try the next new thing on the market for my curls. It causes clutter and it can get expensive.
I've never been the crafty type, but thanks to Pinterest and Youtube, I'm ready to try my hand at a few projects this spring and summer instead of paying for stuff I could make myself for half the price. Not only will it be cheaper, it'll give me something to do and I'll be learning something new. I'll be sure to share those projects here as soon as I finish them.
As of today, I've decided to cut out fast food from my diet. I may go for a salad or a dessert every now and then, but I won't be eating burgers and things like that unless I make them at home. I honestly haven't been eating as much fast food as I used to anyway. I've been on a Subway kick for that past three weeks thanks to the BOGO coupons we got in the mail which is always great. You don't have to eat grass and rice cakes in order to have a healthy diet. It's all about discipline and creativity. I've found some great clean eating recipes that are easy to make so I'll be doing a lot more cooking and meal preparation at home.
Uh, yeah... I'm working on it. I've been going back and forth with the idea of grad school, but I'm not completely sure yet. Where I wanna go, cost of tuition, what program would be best, the GRE, personal statements and all that jazz. Getting admitted into school is a process in itself, which can be very stressful and exhausting. That's one of the main reasons I'm hesitant on the whole grad school thing, not to mention more student loans. Having a degree and wanting to work in the communication/journalism field is rewarding, but it also gets frustrating and discouraging at times. Either way, I'm determined. Things will get better. No matter what it is you want to do, if you keep keep at it and you're passionate about it, something will come from it. With that being said, I really need to practice what I preach and blog more. Being a writer and wanting to be a writer is hard. I want to make sure my time is spent wisely on topics that matter. That's one of the reasons why I don't blog about every single thing I read about or see. Some things aren't worth my time and energy, but I will definitely be writing more. I say this all the time and I never do it, but I'm holding myself accountable.
I am completely over ABC and these unnecessary breaks in between Scandal.
It's wrong and inconsiderate. Stop that! If you're not a Gladiator, shame on you. Get on ABC.com or Netflix and get your life right. I have also been playing the heck out of The 20/20 Experience
. JT and Timbaland did an excellent job with this album. 2013 is gonna be a beautiful year when it comes to music for a music lover like me. All of my favorites are working on projects or going on tour this year and I can't wait!
And last, but certainly not least...
I'll be a quarter of a century old in a month and seven days and I have no clue what I'm going to do to celebrate. I wish I could've done a birthday extravaganza, but my meager bank account won't allow that. Either way, I plan on making the best of it and having fun. It's a major milestone so I want to make the best of it. Honestly, I just wanna go out of town. I'm over spending all of my birthdays in my hometown. A trip to NYC or Atlanta would be nice. We'll see!
